How do you put a module inside an article?

Joomla 1.5 Joomla 1.6 Joomla 1.7 Joomla 2.5

You will usually want to associate modules with articles in some way. The modules are allocated to module positions and the module positions appear somewhere on the Web page as determined by the template. However, it is sometimes useful to have a module actually embedded within the article.

To insert a module inside an article, use the {loadposition xx} command, as follows:

  1. Create a module and set its position to any value that doesn't conflict with an existing template position. You can type in the position value instead of selecting it from the drop-down list. For example, use the position myposition.
  2. Assign the module to the Menu Items that contain the articles that you want the module to show in. You can also just assign the module to all Menu Items.
  3. Edit the articles where you want this module to appear and insert the text {loadposition myposition} in the article at the place where you want the module.

Note that this only works when the Content - Load Module plugin is enabled. If this plugin is disabled, the text {loadposition myposition} shows unchanged in the article.

Joomla 1.7-2.5 - How to Use Images as Menu Items Instead of Text

In this tutorial, you will learn how to insert an image as a menu item instead of text.  You can easily accomplish this using the Menu Manager Menu Items and do not need to install any 3rd party Joomla 1.7 Components orExtensions.

For example, I want to replace the 3 links along the top menu that say “Home”, “Sample Sites”, “Joomla.org” with images instead of text.   Below are the steps on how to do it in your Menu Manager.

Joomla 1.7 - Menu as Images

Joomla 1.7 - Menu as Images

1.  Login to your Joomla 1.7 Administrator Panel

2.  Click on “Menus”, “Top’, Click on New

3.  Set the following values:

  • Menu Item Type = “featured articles
  • Menu TItle = Home
  • Status = Published
  • Access = Public
  • Menu Location = Top

4.  Under Link Type Options, set the following values:

  • Link Image = Upload the image you want to insert from your computer
  • Add Menu Title = No

5.  Click on ‘Save & Close’

6.  Repeat these steps for the other menu items you want to insert an image instead of using text.

Joomla 1.7 - Insert Image Menu Item no title

Joomla 1.7 - Insert Image Menu Item no title

If your Menu Manager Edit Menu item screen does not show the ‘Add Menu Title’, see my post here.

After you save and refresh your Joomla 1.7 website, your menu items will show up as images with no titles beside it.

Thanks,

Joomla! 1.5 - End of Life

joomla_15_ripJoomla! 1.5 End of life April 2012

Joomla! 1.5 is retiring in April 2012, that’s barely 2-3 months from now. It would make little sense for the majority to develop a new site in Joomla 1.5 right now and then migrate them to Joomla 2.5. At the same time it takes around 15 days for making template for Joomla 1.5 (design to release). We would NOT be releasing any new Joomla 1.5 template from Feb 2012 onwards, that saves our various teams almost 45 days of work! We plan to use these saved 45 man days for upgrades and converting older templates to Joomla 2.5.

However, we commit to support Joomla 1.5 products till 31st December 2012. Joomla! 1.5 was revolutionary, Rest in Peace old friend.

What about the remaining 80+ Joomla 1.5 templates ?

Lets face the fact, it would not be possible to upgrade all the older Joomla! 1.5 templates to Joomla 2.5 on T3 framework. We would like to go for user polls (Facebook poll or simple voting form) to decide on the next batch of templates to be upgraded to Joomla 2.5. We will start with 2010 - 2009 releases first and take the top 10 voted templates for upgrade and then we may repeat voting for 2008-2007 releases.
